The halls of Bates Academy were buzzing with excitement on May 15 as students stepped into a world filled with inspiration, opportunity, and big dreams during Career Day 2026! From law enforcement and public service to entrepreneurship, healthcare, beauty, leadership, and community advocacy, students had the chance to hear directly from an incredible lineup of professionals who are making a difference in their careers and communities every single day.

Classrooms transformed into spaces of discovery as guests shared powerful stories about perseverance, passion, education, and the importance of believing in yourself. Students asked questions, learned about different career paths, and connected with professionals who encouraged them to dream beyond the classroom walls.

This unforgettable day featured an amazing group of presenters including Travis Wesley, Shanice Petybaboo, Brittany Slater, E'Liza Scott, Jaye Clement, Pageant Atterbury, Jade Mathis, Wayne County Commissioner for District 5,Angelique Peterson-Mayberry, Tiffany Gunter, Chief James Harris, Keena Marable, Terrell Wallace, Wayne County Sheriff Raphael Washington II, Natasha Lampkin, Manessa Reiser, Mike Bruce, Mary Waters, Allen Montgomery, Madam Ombudsman Sherry Gay-Dagnogo, Danielle Stephenson, Lisa Howze, Dominique Henderson, Dr. Carla Watson, Gianna Fay, and Jasmine Tiller.

Students were also thrilled by a very special surprise guest appearance from Garlin Gilchrist II, the Lieutenant Governor of Michigan! His visit brought an extra level of excitement and inspiration to the day as he encouraged students to work hard, stay focused, and continue believing in their future. Seeing a state leader walk the halls of Bates Academy reminded students that greatness can come from anywhere — including their own classrooms.
